„A person must clearly grasp what is the spiritual thing pressing upon…”

„A person must clearly grasp what is the spiritual thing pressing upon their heart, saddening them and embittering their life... For the most part, when one searches and finds some cause for this state of soul, it is only a superficial cause, and the truth is far deeper.”From Orot HaKodesh I, 197

When something depresses us, when we feel bad, there is the visible cause — that thing that annoyed or frustrated us. But in the depths there is the real, deep thing that is disturbing us. And this deeper something is the gate that must be opened so that we may live better. Our soul cries out for repair, and if we succeed in seeing the root that requires mending, and not merely the withered branches, we will receive a new life.
