„Without the rivalry of scholars, each person creates only from their inner inclination, and reflects and studies only what their spirit inclines them toward... And only from the rivalry of scholars does a person come to engage in fields to which they have no inner pull.”From Shemonah Kevatzim IV, 84
The rivalry of scholars causes us to broaden our knowledge. Alongside our natural talents, the successes around us cause us to want to be more. And thus, when it is in the right measure, the world and we ourselves gain from it. In the future to come, the Rav says in the continuation of the passage, we will not need rivalry to broaden knowledge, and the unique talent of each person will shine with its great light and bring blessing to all.
