Mishpetei HaRav Kook / True Freedom
„It is no easy task either to grasp the concept of freedom in its fullness and scope, to the point of clarifying that one is bound to a true freedom and does not stumble into a counterfeit freedom, which is far worse and lowlier than any servitude.”From Ma'amarei HaRe'iyah, Bein Avdut LeCherut
We all aspire to freedom. But in real life there are traps of freedom that may bring us into a terrible servitude. One can see this in perspective and in looking back at things we did and regret. The freedom of a counterfeit liberty gives a wonderful feeling at its outset, but in the end its price is heavy and immense. Servitude to work, to screens, to drugs and cigarettes. Servitude to things that are very tempting at their outset, and from which weaning and emerging are very hard, or whose price we pay for choosing them is immense. On the festival of freedom, let each of us examine our choices and our freedom, so that we may say: now, we are free.
