Parashat Vayikra

„Full of life is the Divine service, which reveals itself in the great strength of its might in the sacred service and in the Temple, which will be built speedily in our days.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 20

The book of Vayikra deals with the service of the sacrifices, a service that is difficult for many of us in the new world that has been created here. Rav Kook speaks of the power and importance of this service on two planes, the spiritual-Kabbalistic plane, and the most human and basic plane. Alongside the Kabbalistic plane, there is here also a very simple truth, a very human one, that must not be belittled. A loving person wants to give, wants to touch, wants to express his connection through action. He is not satisfied with an inner feeling alone, but seeks to bring it out into the world. We live in an era in which the connection with the Holy One, blessed be He, has often become abstract, clean, even distant, and there is in this a need for repair and purification. But within this there is also a growing longing - to encounter, to live the connection.
