„Just as the Divine truth acts to give light and life to every soul—ev…”

„Just as the Divine truth acts to give light and life to every soul—even if it hides beneath several coverings that conceal it—so the falsehood of denying God acts for ill upon all the depths of the heart and soul, and contaminates all the chambers of life, even though it sometimes hides beneath coverings of the ways of morality, uprightness, and the love of truth. (Pnimiyut Alef, passages, 17)”

The Torah introduced into the world moral foundations that had not existed in humanity. The reason is the fact of its being Divine—above the need of the specific time and place—one that sees the entire universal need without self-interests. When human heresy arrives, it introduces self-interests, and sometimes, even though it waves about a renewed morality and the like, it in fact returns the world to chaos. Rav Kook writes about the place of heresy as something that is needed in order to rectify distortions that exist in reality. But alongside this we must remember that the greatest distortion of all is heresy itself, and its damage is enormous.
