„There is one aim to the Torah: to arouse the supreme spiritual side within a person, so that he may be occupied with holy concepts and turn away from bestial bodily sinking that impoverishes the power of his selfhood. And from the aspect of the negative aim of removal from evil, all matters of Torah are equal. However, from the aspect of the self-revelation of the Divine light that satiates the soul, there is a great difference between a great matter and a small one.”From Shemonah Kevatzim 2:171
The aim of the Torah is to arouse within each of us the spiritual side — that we turn away from evil and do good. In this, every Torah study helps us — whether it advances us in a direct way, or whether it is some Torah study that is unrelated, and the light of Torah within it returns us to the good.
Together with this, specific studies that deal with inner matters have the power to satiate the soul and to make us grow. This power is not mystical but cognitive — we study and know things that make us grow and make us better.
Have a pleasant rest of the day, everyone!
