„let us learn a little from things that Rav Kook said about his path”

„let us learn a little from things that Rav Kook said about his path”

The disconnection from the world of matter and the seclusion in the cave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his son Rabbi Elazar was a recommendation for select individuals. Even when this disconnection was made, the Gemara speaks in harsh terms about Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his son Elazar, and their return to the cave is accompanied by a shocking statement — "The judgment of the wicked in Gehinnom is twelve months."

In our times, when the People of Israel have returned to their land and life is repaired in the Land of Israel, this instruction for select individuals does not apply. In the Land of Israel, on the holy soil, action too is blessed; it too is considered as the study of Torah and as "the very body of Torah."

We must read these things in the face of extreme statements in various circles for whom the study of Torah is precious.

There is no doubt that the study of Torah is precious — "The Torah of Your mouth is better for me than thousands of gold and silver" — but we must remember and know that the holy Torah guides us to work the soil of the Land of Israel, to be part of a proper administration in our state, and to fill the whole world with holiness and purity through our power in our land.

Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the Divine Tanna, may his merit protect us, gave great hope and great strength to the People of Israel. Today our strength is measured, in addition to the study of Torah, also in material and practical matters in the Holy Land.

Have a pleasant rest of the day, everyone!

In memory of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, may his merit protect us.
