„Let a person not fear great spiritual heights because it seems to him…”
„Let a person not fear great spiritual heights because it seems to him that he is unworthy of them on account of his iniquities.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, I, 741
When we sin, we place a screen over the ability to advance. The automatic (and Christian) thought that sin is not part of life has arrived in the Jewish world. And consequently, when we discover that we are not perfect, we are liable to stop growing. Here Rav Kook argues that the world of repentance can reach even these places.
We can all be great people; we can all reach great spiritual heights. It does indeed depend on hard work; it does indeed depend on rectifying wrongs. But in the spiritual world there are possibilities of recovery after the falls. As long as the candle of life burns, we can all rectify.
