„...because of the effort to cleave to supernal spirituality, all the spiritual forces of life are elevated upward into the world of supernal thought, and the body is abandoned by the soul, and thereby...”

The world of repentance in our times is a fascinating world; tens of thousands of Jews feel a lack in their spiritual world and in general, and decide to change their ways of life and "return in repentance."

Alongside the majority of those who return in repentance and do so with grace and kindness, there are those for whom the return in repentance turns them into detached and harsh people. The Rav explains the reason for this.

At times we aspire to rise higher and higher and to be the best in the world; this wonderful demand, when it is excessive and unbalanced, may set us in a place detached from the world; we may forget ourselves and our bodies. In such a state a person may forget his family on account of his devotion to Torah, forget the obligations he has on account of a Torah goal he sets for himself, and this forgetting is not positive.

When a person forgets the balances in his life, he gives an opening for bad traits and for negative things to take control. Lack of balance is an opening for evil.

How, then, can one contend with a lack of balance? How should a person who wants to change change? Later in the passage the Rav explains this matter (and we will elaborate on it, God willing, later in the day).

A pleasant day to all!

For the recovery of Mevorach ben Bova.
