„The Rav looked upon reality in a very unique and different way. Think of a teacher who sees the most disruptive child in the class and is filled with wonder at him -”
"this child," he says, "this child is the deepest child in the class"...
Rav Kook was such a teacher; he looked upon the people who struggle to sit and study and said that these people are great people who must heed the voice of their soul.
If you struggle to sit and study, try to find the place of your own Torah, seek out your own ways to connect to God, may He be blessed - whether through prayer, solitude, a different kind of study, drama, and so forth... Bring your abilities to expression and show everyone.
The Rav wrote this passage about a hundred years ago, when such things were very unpopular.
Today, the great psychologists speak of the fact that a person has different intelligences and different abilities. There are people whose abilities are scholarly, and there are those whose abilities are emotional, practical, and so forth...
With his holy eyes the Rav saw the souls of the struggling students and understood that within them lies a rich and full world, which only waits for someone to discover it. This role, says the Rav, is the role of the person himself - do not let your spirit fall; discover your abilities in your own way, and, God willing, you will succeed.
