„It is impossible to find a resting place for the spirit except in the…”
„It is impossible to find a resting place for the spirit except in the divine air... If it can sink into some thick ember of coarseness of spirit and dullness of feeling, it may succeed in diminishing the light of its life for some period of time, until within itself it imagines that it has already found rest... But the days will not be long before the spirit is released from its confines, and the whirling madness begins its work in full force... Our place of rest is only in God.”From Tzima'on LeEl Chai
The spirit of man cannot find rest without God; as long as we are detached from the Holy One our soul will storm and find no rest; it wants closeness to the Holy One and will find no rest until it receives what it has sought.
At times this is expressed in sadness, at times in loneliness or depression. In some it is expressed in a feeling of revulsion at their lives, and so forth.
The Rav explains that indeed there will be days when it will seem to the person detached from the Holy One as though he is living well, as though it is good for him - this feeling is a momentary feeling that passes. The true place of the Jew is in closeness to his God, in closeness to God, may He be blessed, and as long as we are distant we will not feel this closeness.
