Thought

„Every thought that is not brought to completion becomes pictured through the power of the imagination, and for the most part it arouses fear and sorrow.”From 'Rishon LeYafo,' 66

A question that remained open, a fear that was never named, a decision that was never clarified, an inner feeling we refused to look in the eye. Open thoughts. Rav Kook calls this 'a thought that is not completed.' A thought that began and nests within us without being finished. When the intellect does not complete its work, the imagination enters in its place. It begins to paint scenarios, to magnify possibilities, to mix reality with fear, and to turn something unclear into something threatening. Therefore an unfinished thought 'arouses fear and sorrow.' The fog is the place where fear grows. The solution for thinking people is not to stop thinking – we also know that this is impossible. The solution is to finish the thought. To stop, to devote time and leisure, to clarify and give it form. And thus the thought will lift us up, and not turn into imagination.
