Brokenness That Builds
„Even the bad traits and the association with the nations of the world, which caused deficiencies – nevertheless, for the purpose of perfection, precious virtues will come out of these very deficiencies.”From Ein Ayah, Berachot 5, 85
One of the deep foundations in the teaching of Rav Kook is the faith that everything has a purpose. A profound outlook on life that sees even in the deficiencies themselves raw material for repair. There are things that made us fall, entangled us, weakened us, and caused us real deficiencies, but from them too a precious virtue can grow, precisely because they forced us to reflect, to change, to learn, and to rebuild anew. For in the end, when difficult and terrible things happen, the individual and the nation stand before two possibilities: to sink into the brokenness, or to take from it strength, wisdom, depth, and precision, and to renew and rebuild through them in a more refined and better way.
