„Our dear brothers, scholars of the Torah and influential writers, we…”
„Our dear brothers, scholars of the Torah and influential writers, we too have been foolish and have sinned. We studied and researched, we debated and innovated, we wrote and depicted, but we forgot God and His might; we did not heed the voice of the prophets of truth, the voice of the finest sages of the generations of the world, the voice of the righteous and the pious, the masters of ethics and the masters of contemplation and of the mysteries, who cried out and proclaimed with a mighty voice that the river of the practical Talmud alone is destined to become dry and parched, if we do not continually draw into it waters from the sea - the water of wisdom and Kabbalah, the water of the knowledge of God, the water of the purity of the pure faith that flows from within our soul, from its root, from the source of life.”From Orot, 'The Great Call'
At times, the accounting of the soul must be within one's own home.
Within each one of us. Not with an accusing finger toward this or that person or group. But toward ourselves.
When things go badly, when 'the nation' or parts of it turn their back on us, we must stop.
We must delve deeper, feel more, be more, connect to the world around us, and together with this proclaim aloud the voice of the Almighty.
To sound the voice, and to listen.
In this passage the Rav teaches us the importance of studying the inner Torah - it is the redeeming Torah, it is the Torah that connects the mind and the heart. The inner Torah sees reality in depth and not only the things standing before the eyes.
At times, looking in depth can change reality.
