Rosh Chodesh Sivan
„The foundation of the Oral Torah together with the Written Torah is so that the Torah may be expounded in the court of every generation.”From LeNevuchei HaDor, 13
Shavuot, the festival of the giving of the Torah, is the festival that separates us from the nations by virtue of the Torah. The Talmud tells of Rav Yosef, who sought to especially honor the festival of Shavuot, because were it not for this festival and its essence – 'How many Yosefs are there in the marketplace' – meaning, his uniqueness and greatness would not have been without the Torah. Rav Kook reminds us that alongside the Written Torah we also received an Oral Torah, transmitted through tradition among the sages, and in addition, immense power was given to the sages to adapt the Torah to each and every generation.
