„When the illumination of the soul develops beautifully, one recognize…”

„When the illumination of the soul develops beautifully, one recognizes with clear recognition how all the thoughts roaming the world are bound and connected to one another, and all of them together form a whole organic unit. And then the understanding grasps how all the coarse, evil, destructive thoughts are shells guarding the inner, holy, eternal thoughts, full of a mighty and holy light forever.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 152

One of the most difficult things is to understand how opinions that seem to us utterly foolish are part of an astonishing fabric that creates a healthy reality. And just as this is difficult with opinions, so it is difficult with studies, with deeds, and with the ways of the whole world. The ability to see in the fox that stands in the Holy of Holies a part of a process is unbearably hard. It is very easy to speak of this, and very hard to apply it in practice. And as part of this deep understanding and the work upon it, we must know what is shell and what is food. What is a means to safeguard for us a better world, and what is the good itself. This is the labor of a lifetime.
