Prayer in Routine and in Distress

„Prayer is the expression of natural faith; when it fills the soul, it flows and wells up like a gushing stream... Yet, like every natural creation, prayer requires cultivation and cleansing.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 91

Prayer, says Rav Kook, is not an external act but an inner flow. When faith dwells in the heart, prayer comes forth from within us like a spring, without effort. But it is precisely in the routine of the day, when everything flows, that it becomes difficult. Like every natural creation, it too needs real work, or else, God forbid, a shaking and rousing. The more we delve into prayer, the more we will understand its essence, the importance of thanksgiving, and the building that is constructed in the moments in which we pray and connect.
