A Jewish State as a Foundation for Repair
„For the fulfillment of this aspiration it is specifically necessary that this community possess a political and social state and a throne of national sovereignty... and the absolute divine idea rules there and gives life to the people and to the land through the light of its life.”From Mahalach HaIde'ot BeYisrael, Part II
The words here continue yesterday's teaching. The Jewish vision is not detached, but is entirely connected to life. And the vision of the people of Israel is not one of detached individuals, but of a whole nation that establishes a state, builds a society, manages institutions, economy, army, and culture – and all in the light of the divine soul. The Jewish conception, unlike other religions, demands a whole people. Not only monks or pietists, and not only Torah scholars. Rather a people that includes farmers, workers, people of spirit, artisans, soldiers, leaders, rabbis, and children – who all together build a whole life from which the divine spirit blows.
