Independence Day

„We have a great national soul, holy and unique, to whose banner we are eternally faithful.”From The Sermon in Honor of the Flag

On Independence Day we raise the flag of Israel with pride, not merely as an external symbol but as a living declaration of the existence of an eternal national soul that lives and pulses within us from the time of the standing at Mount Sinai until our own day. Our flag is a faithful expression of our unique quality and of the great mission placed upon us to bring light and repair to the world. Even in the depths of exile, even among foreign nations and distant expanses, the spiritual flag never ceased to wave in the soul of the nation and to carry us toward the day on which we would return and stand in our land in a spirit of valor and life. On this day we declare aloud that the flag of Israel is not an ornament but the essence of our faithfulness to our Torah, to our people, and to our God, and it will continue to illuminate us and the whole world until the great vision of redemption and peace is realized.
