The Torah of the Land of Israel

„The anticipation of salvation is the sustaining force of exilic Judaism, and the Judaism of the Land of Israel is the salvation itself.”From Orot Eretz Yisrael, Chapter I

In exile, the Torah was preserved out of anticipation. It existed mainly in the inner world, through study, halachah, prayer, and memory.

But in the Land of Israel the Torah is realized. Not only as a soul that guards the body, but as a force that gives life to the body. It spreads into all the expanses of life: agriculture, industry, economy, the army, administration – all these become part of a process of repairing the world under the sovereignty of the Almighty. And within all this, the study of Torah, contemplation, education, and depth remain central and exalted. They are not swallowed up by the other domains, but give them direction, depth, root. The vision of the Land of Israel is a vision in which Torah and life meet: not a Torah that shuts itself away, and not a life that detaches, but an encounter of the two, in a land where Judaism is not only a hope, but a reality.
