The Torah of the Land of Israel
„When the turn came for the building of the nation in its land, and the practical need of the political and social arrangements became part of the plan of the collective's endeavors, they are the very body of the Torah.”From Orot HaTechiyah, 27
In the public debate, the fact sometimes arises that for generations rabbis did not follow a certain practice. And this is indeed true, because for many years we lived in exile. The Rav explains that there is an immense difference between a full life in the Land of Israel and a partial life abroad. When the people of Israel returns to its land, the entire conduct in the Land of Israel is a holy conduct. In working the land, in fighting for our security, in managing daily life. The Talmud says, “Whoever dwells in the Land of Israel is like one who has a God, and whoever dwells abroad is like one who has no God.” All the service of God when we live in a state is entirely different from a partial life abroad.
