Parashat Vayeshev
„The free dream, which rebels against reality and its limits – it is in truth the most real truth of reality.”From Shemonah Kevatzim III, 226
Did Joseph's dreams come true? Did precisely everything he saw indeed occur afterward? This is a question about which many commentators offer their view. And it seems to me, in my humble opinion, that there is here an additional view of Rav Kook, which seeks to understand that a dream is an entirely different layer of reality than one that must be judged by the instruments of reality. Joseph dreamed, and therefore he brought it to fruition. He succeeded in lifting himself from the questions of the everyday to a dream. And thus he grew and developed until his dream became a dream that we all study. To learn to dream.
