7 May 2014 · A sentence from the teachings of Rav Kook

„We do not grieve if some disposition of social justice can be built w…”

„We do not grieve if some disposition of social justice can be built without any spark of divine mention, because we know that the very aspiration for justice, in whatever form it may be, is itself the most luminous divine influence.”From Igrot HaRe'iyah, I, 45

Even when an aspiration for justice does not come from a place of Torah, Rav Kook saw in it a part of the world's progress.

A moral world is a world connected to the word of God; therefore, even when this connection arrives without a link to the Torah, there is blessing in it.

Of course this is not the complete connection; of course the detachment may pose a problem. But the direction is correct. Social justice is a good trait even when it is not yet connected, and all the more so when people of Torah are connected to social justice.

Good evening.

For the elevation of the soul of Reuven ben Peretz.
