And Make a Fence for the Torah
„All the words of the Sages who made a fence for the Torah are weighed in the holy scale; to them one may not add, just as from them one may not subtract.”From Ein Ayah, Shabbat I, 2
One of the significant things in the world of halakhah is the additions that are added to the world of halakhah from the side. Fences, safeguards, and various additions that are appended to the halakhic world in order to guard it, to establish it, and to develop it. Alongside the need to preserve the halakhah, the Rav warns of the possibility of making it burdensome. "And when they found that a light fence sufficed, they did not add even a hair's breadth more, even to burden the human will and move it from its desire." And it is fitting to heed these warnings. To know how to make fences when there is a need to be guarded, and to know how to avoid them when the thing itself is liable to endanger.
