„The appearance of poetic creativity shines upon all the visions of the world, and through this even every matter of practical Torah, and the give-and-take of law within it, is crowned with a crown of glory of the radiance of the sun.”

Poetry has a mighty power.

The power of song we have already spoken of before — that it is a power that pierces the kidneys and the heart.

And likewise the power of precision and the power of Torah — for in this the greatness of the liturgical poem (piyut) lies, that it brings the words of the Sages and sounds them in their great depth and in beauty beyond compare.

In honor of the holy Sabbath, the eve of Rosh Hashanah, a piyut that is sung today in all the communities of Israel on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur — "U'Netaneh Tokef" — to the melody of Yair Rosenblum from Kibbutz Beit HaShita.

A melody that contains a bond of the People of Israel with the tradition of Israel — the words from the Sages and the melody, which interprets them, from Jews of our own time.
