Parashat Bechukotai
„The butter of the Torah, its clearest and choicest part... in whom shall it be found? Only in one who was raised on the labor of the Torah through toil.”From Ein Ayah, Berachot 344
"If you walk in My statutes" - Rashi says, "that you toil in the Torah." And Rav Kook expands on the need for toil and labor in order to "acquire Torah." For there are no shortcuts to entering the world of Torah and mitzvot. Even the world of short sentences that I bring here each day is no substitute for the need to enter and study in depth. These are tastings whose purpose is that we delve deeper, that we sharpen ourselves, that we toil. And thus the Torah becomes ours, because we toiled over it and worked hard to understand it, and not through shortcuts.
