„People ask: by what merit did our generation attain redemption? The answer is simple: it merited it because it engaged in the greatest of all the commandments, in the commandment that is weighed against the entire Torah, because it engaged in the redemption of Israel. And not only did it engage - it engages and will engage without cease in its redemption, and this divine power uplifts it and exalts it in salvation. Even all those who stand at a distance, or who oppose all the actions that bring the manifest redemption - they too are among those who merit, because through their demands, the content of engagement with redemption becomes clearer and more clarified, and becomes more refined.”

The things here were written about a hundred years ago. Before the terrible Holocaust and before the establishment of the State of Israel.

Our generation has merited the revival of the soul in a state of its own, the resurgence of the Torah more than ever, and true freedom for every Jew, which for thousands of years we were like dreamers merely to imagine.

The Rav clarifies that the situation in which we find ourselves is because of our engagement with redemption - part of which came from an awakening of hearts and part of which came out of necessity. The engagement with the land and with all that concerns the redemption of a people returning to its land and rebuilding its home there anew.

And as he always tends to do, even in those who seemingly delay the redemption Rav Kook sees a part of the path. They help us to be more careful, to be clearer and more clarified in each and every action. We have merited to live in a special generation.
