Do Not Play the Victim
„And we, subdued by exile, who for so many hundreds of years were enslaved under harsh masters - were it not for the innermost depth of our supernal soul, steeped in a spirit of freedom... the exile could have turned our spirit within us into the spirit of slaves.”From Cheruteinu
What is there in the Exodus from Egypt that it symbolizes our freedom thousands of years later? Rav Kook explains that it instilled in us the spirit of freedom. The capacity to sink into victimhood, into troubles, into depression, is available and accessible to all of us, at every moment. Whoever decides to play the victim on account of his personal troubles, the attitude of his surroundings, hatred and envy, and more - will find justification for all these, and his life will be hard and bad. Freedom reveals to us another option: the ability to build ourselves a new path, a trail that will open for us new life and new possibilities. And yes, it is a matter of decision!
