Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Parashat Bamidbar
„This is the entire foundation of repentance: the elevation of the will and its change for the good, to go out from darkness to light and from a turbid depth to an opening of hope.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 15:2
This week's Torah portion opens with the journey from Mount Sinai to the Land of Israel — a short journey of a few joyful days that became a grueling journey of 40 years in the wilderness. The haftarah speaks of the transition from faith to faithfulness — a commitment in the bond between the people of Israel and the Holy One, Blessed be He, that depends on nothing, but rather on the understanding that this is the most right and healthy thing for our people. The path to redemption passed through the wilderness, and through a deep desire of a people for a bond with its God — a bond that is, in its entirety, true love.
