Mishpetei HaRav Kook / True Freedom

„Characteristic freedom is that lofty spirit by which a person, and likewise the nation as a whole, is elevated to be faithful to his inner essence, to the psychic quality of the image of God within him.”From Cheiruteinu

What is freedom? A person can tell everyone that he is free and happy while being utterly enslaved to the things that envelop his life — enslavement to money, to work, to political opinions, to a persona he once created for himself and now feels obligated to maintain, and so on. A person with freedom is one who is faithful to himself at all times — not to his cravings, nor to this or that fashion, but to his true wants and to the purpose of his life.
