Parashat Toldot

„The highest stance in the love of creatures must be the love of humanity, and it must spread over all of humankind as a whole, despite all the differences of opinions, religions, and faiths... And the narrowness of vision that causes one to see, in all that is outside the borders of the particular nation... only ugliness and impurity — this is among the terrible darknesses that cause a general destruction.”From Middot HaRe'iyah, Ahavah

"And Yitzchak loved Esav, for game was in his mouth." Many have wondered at Yitzchak's choice of Esav throughout the way — a choice that required Yaakov to fight for his place through cunning. It is told of Rav Kook that when parents came to him with a child who had chosen a different path and kicked against their ways, he instructed them to love him more. The choice of love is not surrender or weakness. In other places Rav Kook explains that his love for everyone does not blind his eyes from being wary of the evil of evil.
