„From out of the straits a people was redeemed, through teachers armed with spiritual might, who have no need of a rod of chastisement.”From Meged Yerachim, Tammuz
Rav Kook's maxim for the month of Tammuz expresses the corruption of the days of the Three Weeks and the path of repair — days in which division spread among the people and a basis for destruction was created. The repair for the corruption, according to the Rav's words, begins with proper education. A good educator is one who does not need a rod in order to govern. A person who knows how to educate does not need external aids. His words captivate the listeners, conversation with him is respectful, the desire is to speak and converse with him. One can teach and lead by means of a "rod of chastisement," but very often those led in this way will conduct themselves out of fear and dread, and not out of an inner truth. The repair will begin precisely through "teachers armed with spiritual might" — educators who can influence and change from within.
