In recent days it seems as though a war is being waged in the media against religious and Haredi circles. Rav Kook, in whose time there were also such wars, argued that many of them occur owing to the very fact that we have fixed names for these groups.

When we are judged as a group, we are bound to lose; groups may be suited perhaps to ball games, but in real life the making of a group causes needless factionalism. When one names a group, one automatically causes the group opposite it to be against.

The solution, says the Rav, is the understanding that each of us will be judged on his own; each must aspire to be righteous and to see himself as capable of repair.

A pleasant day to all!
