„True humility and lowliness add health and strength, while the imaginary kind sickens and saddens. Therefore let a person choose the trait of humility and lowliness in its clear form, so that he may be strengthened and emboldened, and 'those who hope in the Lord shall renew their strength.'”From Middot HaRe'iyah, Humility
True humility is a healthy humility. It advances a person and elevates him and raises him up. Imaginary humility is a disqualified humility. When we succeed in truly touching the trait of humility, we are strengthened—we understand the difference between us and our Creator, and between us and the world in which we live. Disqualified humility is a humility that does not advance. It is sometimes done for appearance's sake, or it tries to lower us to places where we are not truly found, and consequently brings us to places that are not good.
We must cleave to true humility, to know our worth, to understand the greatness of the world around us, and out of this to act and to do and to advance. A humility that brings us to advancement is necessarily truer and greater than a humility that paralyzes us.
