Parashat Tazria-Metzora
„A person whose soul shines within him must seclude himself a great deal. The constant company of other people... dims the clear light of his supernal soul.”From Shemonah Kevatzim III, 319
In Parashat Tazria-Metzora, the person afflicted by the plague is sent to seclude himself: 'he shall dwell alone, outside the camp.' This distancing, in its depth, is the beginning of a repair. One who has damaged his connection with others, one who has grown accustomed to seeing the flaws around him, needs a moment to distance himself in order to encounter himself anew. As long as a person is within society, he can keep fleeing. When he is alone, he has no one to lean on. He stands before himself, unable to flee, and before the truth. And in this place the healing begins. But this is not a destination, it is a path. The goal is to return from the solitude to society, in order to be within it genuine and true.
