The Festival of Education

„The world chases after wisdoms, insights, and sharpened knowledge, and in the end the essential point of life revolves around the future, around the education of the generation.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 205

We live in a generation that sanctifies knowledge. Depth, sophistication, sharpness. Everything must be smarter, more complex, more sophisticated. But Rav Kook comes and tells us something almost opposite: this whole race misses the point. The point of life is not found in what we know, but in who will come after us. In the future. In the children. In education. For in the end, even the wisest person, when he stands before a child, does not meet him through deep ideas or abstract concepts, but through connection, simplicity, trust, and innocence. And there, precisely, lies the true power of life. Passover reminds us of this in the sharpest way. We do not sit around a table in order to impress with knowledge, but in order to tell. In order to transmit. In order to touch the heart of a child, and also the childlike heart that remains within us. Perhaps this is the greatest lesson: it is not wisdom that sustains the world, but the ability to build a generation that continues it!
