Between Yom Kippur and Sukkot

„And those days that fall between Yom Kippur [and Sukkot]...”From Olat Re'iyah II

On Yom Kippur we detach from this world, rising almost entirely beyond nature. But one who hovers in the air may also crash when he returns to the ground. Therefore we were given the days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot, gentle days of training in which we learn to return to everyday life without losing the light we received. The climax comes on Sukkot itself: not merely a return to life, but a celebration of nature. We go out from our house to the sukkah, we meet the wind, the sky, all that the world has to offer, and we discover that within life itself dwells holiness.
