A Life Story

Telling the life stories of the righteous and the great is not merely a historical memory but a way to live from them in other generations as well. When we study their ways, their labor, their struggles, and their decisions, it does not change us all at once like a lamp that blinds, but seeps into us gradually, like rays of sun that slowly enter the room. At first we hardly notice, but ray after ray they gather and become a great sun of inspiration that illuminates our lives. This learning is not coercive but inviting, not pressing but gentle, and therefore it succeeds in refining the heart and reminding the soul of what it truly longs for.
