Hate Evil
„When one loves the wicked because of human weakness, one is found loving also [the evil]...”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 160
A thin line runs between love of the wicked and acceptance and love of wickedness. And on this thin line Rav Kook frequently expresses himself. In certain places Rav Kook speaks of drawing them near, of the fact that every soul is a light in the world, and in other places he warns us against closeness to them. There is no contradiction in this. In every person there is a special light, but there are souls whose evil, which they instill in the world, may endanger us, and therefore we must keep our distance. Inwardly, we must know of the presence of the light in each one, and judge favorably. And in practice, we must know how to be wary of people who would influence us for the worse.
