„It is not the mere echo of a people hated in the world going to seek…”
„It is not the mere echo of a people hated in the world going to seek for itself a safe refuge from its persecutors that alone is worthy of restoring life to this movement of the ages; rather, it is a holy nation, the treasured one of the peoples, the lion's cub of Judah, awakening from its long slumber – and behold, it is going and returning to its inheritance.”From Iggeret 571
On Memorial Day we remember that we are here not merely as a refuge from persecutors. Our war for our home is because of the fact that we have returned to our land. We have come home. And our return home, out of love for our land, out of faith in what is written in our Torah and our heritage, is a stumbling block to our enemies. We pay for this with much blood. On Memorial Day, it is important that we internalize and understand again: we are defending the home. Guarding our lives. Living. By the merit of our people, and by the merit of the fallen, the wounded, the living and the dead.
