A Free World

„And our freedom liberates our spirit and the spirit of the whole universe.”From Haggadah shel Pesach

On the eve of Passover, a moment before we open the Haggadah, Rav Kook reminds us that true freedom changes the world. In his essay he describes how freedom is not merely a going out from physical bondage, but a deep liberation of the spirit. When the soul is liberated, when a person returns to live out of depth, love, and connection – all of life returns to its place. The human being, who is the essence of creation, restores all of reality to its essence. And when his spirit is redeemed, the spirit of the universe too fills with life.

On the festival of freedom we do not merely remember what was, but open the door to what can be.
