A Simple Truth

„The higher the truth is, the simpler it is, and the more necessary it is for all.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, V 15

Rav Kook teaches us a deep insight about the nature of truth – the deeper and higher the truth, the simpler it is and the more necessary it is for every person. The divine truth in its simplicity is the basic vision of reality – the unity of the world, the love of created beings, the existence of the absolute good. These are fundamental truths, simple to understand. The human error is to think that in order to make a deep truth accessible, one must break it into small parts and diminish it. “He is afraid of its greatness, and thinks that in diminishing it, it will be more popular.” But in this breaking down, the truth becomes less accessible and more complicated to grasp. Just as children understand complex truths of life in their simplicity, the divine truth in its wholeness is accessible to all as it is – “and precisely for this reason it is fit for all, for all flesh, for every creature, for every worker.”
