Yielding and Humility
„Sometimes the whole is preserved, in its bond and in its spirituality, precisely through the lowering of its spirit and the dimming of its light.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 237
The Babylonian Talmud brings an aggadic midrash about the moon and the sun: "The moon said before the Holy One, blessed be He: Master of the Universe, is it possible for two kings to make use of a single crown? He said to her: Go and diminish yourself!" The Holy One creates two great luminaries; the moon asks how two luminaries can rule, and the Holy One tells her to make herself smaller and to yield.
The need to diminish ourselves, to be silent, to yield, is a human virtue not recognized by an intellect that is not human – yielding and humility are done precisely where there is strength and capability. And at times the power of yielding and humility can save us. In our private lives and in our public life.
