To Look Deeply
„When one looks at the world to judge it only from the side of the influence of the revealed part of the Torah, without the influence of the Torah of loving-kindness that flows from the source of the hidden divine enlightenment, the attribute of strict judgment grows very great, along with hatred of humanity and despair on every side.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 240
When we read reality only from its visible side, we are liable to err and to be confused. To be filled with arrogance and a sense of "I, and there is none besides me." In the Torah there is the revealed side and the hidden side. One who does not study the depth of the Torah and its essence alongside its obligations and its revealed, halakhic matters, and is content with only its revealed side, is liable to burn worlds and destroy them. And especially in a generation of redemption! True great ones of the generation must possess the study of depths in order to lead and to draw near.
