Greatness

„The truly great people find within themselves an inner resistance to being taught, for everything lives within them and streams forth from their spirit.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 172

I was at parent-teacher meetings last night, and I recalled the years when I taught. I see before my eyes children who were "good" – that is, disciplined – and, in the perspective of nearly twenty years, what grew out of them; and I see before my eyes children who were "challenging" and what grew out of them. The years of study and the place of our children in these years are an essential part of their growth, but not always is what appears to the eye of flesh as "good" truly good, and at times what is challenging in the years of youth becomes an astonishing engine for the child and for the world. And the main thing is to see beyond, to understand the privilege and the souls that came down into the world, and to give each one his own way to grow and flourish. "In his own Torah" – in his own Torah.
