The Eve of the Ninth of Av
„How can I relinquish the gift of the Holy One,”From Rav Kook's Responsum on "The Kotel Agreements"
The eve of the Ninth of Av, a day that constituted the peak of many destructions for the people of Israel, from the destruction of the Temple until now. The symbol of collapse. On this day it is important that we remember that we, as human beings, have immense power in the continuation of the chain of our people, in our return to our Land, and in guarding all the abundance we have received. In this year let us add to all these the sharpening of the need to understand that nothing is to be taken for granted. Rav Kook, who was a man easygoing with people, a lover of peace and a pursuer of peace, stood with full force upon the safeguarding of the holy places, foremost among them Jerusalem, and this because of the fact that we are here as an immense part of a people that was, that is, and that will be, that received gifts from the Holy One, and none of us has the right to relinquish them in the name of all the generations.
