„Just as a small tree kindles a great one, and with a small kindling twig they lit the fire of the altar, so too a small and meager cry brings about a great awakening of soul and intellect.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, VI, 13
The great fire of the altar in the Temple was kindled (in times of need) with small slivers of wood. A small match can set an entire forest ablaze, and the beat of a butterfly's wings can change the order of the world.
And just as this is true in those cases, so it is true among human beings. A small awakening in us can change the world. The right word in the right place, a smile where it is needed, help and a hand extended at times. So for the good, and at times, God forbid, even for ill.
Today, in the generation of social networks, this is even clearer. The power of the individual is immense, and its potential danger is no less immense. We must remember this, and mend the world.
