Patience

„Patience is meant to reconcile those differences of opinion that are fit to exist by virtue of healthy human nature... but God forbid that it become the cause of laziness in refining and illuminating opinions, to the point that it also protects harmful and unripe opinions.”From "Nechamat Yisrael," p. 106

In order to sustain a diverse and healthy society, we are required to have much patience, patience that will succeed in containing the different individuals and binding them together. But the purpose of patience is to create dialogue, not to prevent it. When, in the name of "patience," there is a silencing of voices, we miss the goal and the ability to create a diverse world and to advance our world. Let us be patient in order to hold discussions with respect, to exchange opinions, to hear the other, and not in order to silence every debate.
