„The difference between the slave and the free person is not merely a difference of status - that in this case one is subjugated to another and the other is not subjugated. We can find an enlightened slave whose spirit is full of freedom, and conversely, a free person whose spirit is the spirit of a slave.”From Ma'amrei HaRe'iyah, 'Our Freedom'

Slavery, and certainly 'modern slavery,' does not depend only on the body.

Against physical subjugation can stand the power of spiritual freedom. It is that which, in the lowest and hardest places, causes us to advance, to see beyond, and to be in a better world.

In our world we are liable to confuse slaves with the free. To confuse people who are considered the kings of the world but are in fact its slaves, with people who are in constant and hard labor but in their spirit are the true kings of the world.
