Mishpatei HaRav Kook / A Time to Win
„There is a use for good in the might of vengeance and hatred and the like.”From Ein Ayah, Shabbat 1:84
When the Rav speaks of the character traits, he explains that every trait has a purpose - in keeping with his conception regarding everything in the matters of this world: everything has its place. And so there is a place also for hatred, and for vengeance, and for daring, and at times for stubbornness. This is true in private contexts, and also in general contexts. I thought of this sentence in the wake of what befell us last night and the terrible murder of the young shepherd on Friday. The intent is not that someone take the task upon himself and carry it out in anarchy and defiance, but rather as a commandment and duty of a nation and an army against those who come to destroy us. A time to win - for without victory, we are liable to lose.

The study is dedicated to the safekeeping and return of Ziv Berman (26), who was abducted from Kibbutz Kfar Aza. And to the memory of the youth, the shepherd, Binyamin Achimeir, who was murdered by our enemies.
